Sewage sludge pyrolysis
Pyrolysis is a promising alternative for the efficient and sustainable management of the increasing amounts of sewage sludge that are being produced world-wide. Combining with prior anaerobic digestion allows the harnessing of methane-rich biogas as well as oil and gas from the pyrolysis process. In addition, the char holds the potential for carbon sequestration and improvement of soil quality. The intended application to soil makes it particularly necessary to assess the environmental safety of chars being produced from (potentially ENM enriched) sewage sludge.
