DRIFT spectroscopy

Diffuse reflectance infrared Fourier-transform (DRIFT) spectroscopy is a simple FTIR technique for producing an "absorbance" spectrum from the surface of a powder. Neat (undiluted) powders can be used so this is a very rapid method with minimal sample preparation. The reflected infrared beam is split into two components: specular reflectance (S) and volume reflectance (V). A DRIFT spectrum is a combination of the two.

Because of its high energy throughput, DRIFT spectroscopy becomes an efficient option for rapid scanning (~15 sec). Multi-samplers can be used.

 Portable MIR

Handheld mid-infrared (MIR) spectroscopy is now available enabling samples to be scanned in the field. Large numbers of samples can be analysed on-site without submitting to the laboratory.
