The 2019 EU-U.S. NanoEHS CORs Workshop will take place October 15-16, 2019, at the Europole de l’Arbois in Aix en Provence, France. The workshop is organized by the European Commission and the U.S. National Nanotechnology Initiative and co-hosted by the CEREGE (CNRS, AMU) and the Labex SERENADE.
The NanoFASE concluding conference will be organized in Vienna in coordination with the 14th International Conference on Environmental Effects of Nanoparticles and Nanomaterials - ICEENN 2019. ICEENN 2019 is the leading international conference on environmental nanoscience. ICEENN brings together researchers, industry and regulators to discuss recent advances in our understanding of the fate and behaviour of nanomaterials, their applications and possible effects in the environment and the key issues relating to maintaining the economic and social benefits of nanotechnology.
In September, ICEENN 2019 is jointly organized by the Department of Environmental Geosciences at the University of Vienna and NanoFASE project. The Gordon Research Seminar on Environmental Nanotechnology is a unique forum for graduate students, post-docs, and other scientists with comparable levels of experience and education to present and exchange new data and cutting edge ideas. The EU-Asia Dialogue on Nanosafety is an international event which brings together experts from Asia and Europe. The main purpose of this gathering is to share knowledge with regards to the safety of Nanotechnology, get insights on actual and future human and environmental Nanosafety research, and discuss how to develop them to a thematic collaboration.
The 3rd EU-Asia Dialogue will be held in conjunction with ASEAN summit 2019 hosted by the Ministry of Science and Technology Thailand (MOST), Bangkok, Thailand, in order to encourage partnership in the science, technology, and innovations developed between ASEAN and its trade partners.
The past two Dialogues were held in Tehran on November 28th, 2017 and Vienna on October 29th, 2018, respectively.
The networking event "Successful R&I in Europe 2018" will be held for the tenth time in 2019, on 14 & 15 February at the Van der Valk Airporthotel in Düsseldorf, Germany.
The conference invites researchers and entrepreneurs from North Rhine-Westphalia and regions in Europe to find new European research and innovation (R&I) partners for Horizon 2020 projects. The EU NanoSafety Cluster and the Horizon 2020 ACEnano are organizing the 3rd NanoSafety Forum for Young Scientists. The event is a follow-up of the first two meetings, which took place in Syracuse, Sicily and Visby, Sweden, and will take place in Valletta, Malta, on 10th an 11th September 2018.
The event is an open forum for young (students, post docs and others) and senior scientists working in EU-funded, national and industrial nanosafety projects. The Forum will also offer everyone the opportunity to network, promote cross-project collaboration, exchange scientific knowledge and learn from each other.
The Forum will consist of both oral and poster presentations, which will allow Young Scientists showcase their work and express fresh ideas. At the same time, keynote talks by experienced experts will also take place, on matters of high scientific interest for the wider NanoSafety community.

The EU NanoSafety Cluster (NSC) is an open platform for dialogue and exchange to maximise the synergies between European-level projects addressing the safety of materials and technologies enabled by the use of nanoparticles. The NSC working groups (WG) and task forces (TF) focus on toxicology, ecotoxicology, exposure assessment, mechanisms of interaction, risk assessment and standardisation, communication and training.
In coordination with NanoFase consortium meeting (19-21 March 2018), the next EU NanoSafety Cluster Scientific Meeting will be held on 22-23 March 2018 at the Royal Olympic Hotel in Athens, Greece. The meeting will start at 09:00 on Thursday 22 March and is focussed on the Mid-term review of scientific advances by FP7 and H2020 projects. These scientific review and discussion sessions end at 13:00 on Friday 23 March. After lunch, there will be WG and TF break-out sessions as well as a meeting of the Greek NanoSafety Platform. The meeting is open to all, as are the evening social and cultural activities. NanoFASE consortium partners are coming together for the 30 month Consortium Meeting for the review and planning of the project. It will be one of the biggest gatherings of our project partners to discuss and maximize the impact of the project, with sessions developing our Clickable Framework, model integration, scenarios and case studies, mesocosm experiments, and more. EuroNanoForum 2017will take place from 21 to 23 June 2017, in Valetta, Mlata and will focus on how nano and materials technologies can strengthen competitiveness across all European industries.
The discussion will also extend to framework conditions such as education, standards, regulations, IPR and safety issues, as well as entrepreneurship and industrial policy. The programme will include sessions on finance and funding through European and National programmes, in particular Horizon 2020, smart specialisation and public-private partnership initiatives.
Nanotechnology is one of six Key Enabling Technologies (KETs) in the current European industrial policy. An extensive European mandate M461 for developing standards on nanotechnology-related topics is under way.
In the frame of the M461 mandate, a second Open Meeting on (Standardisation for) Nanotechnologies and Nanomaterials is organised by CEN/TC 352 "Nanotechnologies" in collaboration with CEN CENELEC Management Centre (CCMC), the European Commission (EC). The meeting will take place on the 20th of June 2017 in Malta.
The aim of the Meeting is to present progress of the work within mandate M461. The main CEN Technical Committees (TC) involved (TC 352 on Nanotechnologies, TC 195 on Air filters for general air cleaning, and TC 137 on Assessment of workplace exposure to chemical and biological agents), will show and explain their preliminary results. Poster sessions on standards under preparation will allow a direct dialogue between participants and experts.
Also a Round Table will be organized with practitioners, researchers and policy makers on e.g.:
- The role of standardisation in the acquisition of reliable nanomaterial data and in the curation of data into interoperable nanomaterial databases.
- How to anticipate and address risks raised by nanotechnologies?
- Needs for standardization in the framework of EMPIR or Horizon 2020.
- Applications of nanomaterials in control technology including nanofiber filters
- Application of control technologies in nanomaterial manufacturing plants
The discussion will also be focused on the overview of Research projects and their impact to the Standardization activities.
Toxicity, Ecotoxicity and the Environment will be addressed in collaboration with EC representatives.

"Nanomaterials: Industrial Workshop on Safe-by-Design" will take place from 24-25 April 2017 in Bilbao, Spain. The event is jointly organized by NanoFase, NanoMILE, NanoReg2, forSafeNano, caLIBRAte and NANOGENTOOLS.
A number of H2020 funded projects are working on various aspects of the Safe-by-Design (SbD) concept and all rely upon industry to understand its meaning and how to use the tools being developed in these projects. Within this event, disseminating this knowledge to a wider audience will help in the acceptance and uptake of SbD by companies and will also allow the projects to learn more about stakeholder needs.
The NanoImpact Conference will take place on Monte Verità in Southern Switzerland, March 12-17, 2017.
The last 10 years saw an enormous growth in nanosafety funding and published research. Answers are now demanded whether these new materials represent a novel threat to humans and the environment and whether nanomaterials need to be assessed differently and more stringent than conventional materials. The overall goal of the planned conference will be to integrate the scientific knowledge available about nanomaterial exposure, fate, effects and risks in the environment.
The deadline for abstract submission is November 15, 2016. The meeting will be limited to 120 people in total.

The spICP-MS: data analysis, hands-on training workshop will be held in Wageningen, The Netherlands from 10 to 12 January 2017. Two days workshops (day 1: lectures, day 2: computer exercises) will be supported by optional hands-on training on the ICP-MS instruments (PE Nexion 350D and Thermo iCapQ). The workshop will focus on handling and analysis of single particle ICP-MS data, analysis strengths and limitations. The spICP-MS data will be analysed with the help of RIKILT SPC (Excel based single particle ICP-MS calculation spreadsheet) and Nanocount software.
Audience: PhDs, Postdocs, researchers on nanocharacterization. The number of participants is limited to 50 for the lectures, and 10 for the on hands-on training (20 in case of particularly high interest).

"Science based support for regulation of Manufactured Nanomaterials" is a joint scientific conference of ProSafe & OECD. The event will take place from 29 Nov to 1 Dec 2016 at the OECD Conference Centre in Paris, France.
ProSafe aims to coordinate and strengthen existing and new initiatives in the field of nanosafety with emphasis on the regulatory context.
OECD's Programme on Manufactured Nanomaterials is focused on policy and regulatory aspects related to human health and environmental safety, which amongst other things means the development of instruments for safety assessment.
The ProSafe-OECD conference will discuss the results from European funded projects on nanosafety, as well as the results from the OECD's activities on nanosafety and their regulatory relevance.
This event will also be the final conference of EU FP7 project NANoREG.
Objective
The conference will support an effective implementation of existing risk assessment frameworks for manufactured nanomaterials underpinned by relevant regulatory findings from current research on nanosafety.
The outcomes and recommendations of the conference aims at providing further scientific advice on risk assessment throughout the supply chain and highlight policy areas for further consideration by regulatory bodies.

The SETNanoMetro project organizes an international summer school "Nanoscience Meets Metrology: Synthesis, Characterization, Testing and Applications of Validated Nanoparticles" to take place form 4th to 9th September 2016 in Torino, Italy.
According to European Commission important challenges at European level are related to the establishment of validated method and instrumentation for detection, characterization and analysis of nanoparticles.
In this frame the SETNanoMetro project (started in 2013 and grouping 16 European partners) aims to move from the current trial and error approach toward the development of well-defined and controlled protocols for the production of NPs and to the establishment of correct metrological traceability chain in order to ensure the reliability of the results. To this scope the set-up of standardized experimental procedures is also needed for the characterization of individual NPs and films resulting from their assembly/aggregation, as well as of standardized rules for the evaluation of NPs and films performances in a variety of possible application fields, ranging from environment and energy to health.

A 2-day pre-conference workshop on nanoparticle characterization will precede the meeting.
Nanotech-2016 is a gathering of researchers, leading scientists, engineers and technology developers in nanotechnology to exchange information on their latest research and innovation. The event will take place from 4-6 April 2016 in Baltimore, MD, USA. Nanotech-2016 covers all the topics in nanotechnology.
It is an excellent event for students to meet and discuss with lead researchers. The conference provides a unique opportunity to discover innovation in the area of nanotechnology and new business developments.
The Hands-on workshop on nano safety assessment will take place on 10 February 2016 at the Technology Park, Basel, Switzerland. This joint event willbring together inputs and approaches from several EU NMP projects (e.g. eNanoMapper, NanoFASE, GUIDEnano, SUN)
Objectives:
To work through nanotechnology safety examples and exercises using existing data resources and modelling tools;
To use information in support of nanotechnology risk assessment goals and to discuss current results;
To discuss the role of harmonisation and ontology in the use of multiple modelling and assessment tools applied to nano safety.
Format:
The workshop will focus on specific cases and practical examples in which the group will work through modelling, analysis and assessment exercises, and discuss the results.
Our sister project NanoDefine will organize a Second Synergy Workshop with other relevant Nanosafety Cluster (NSC) projects, to further strengthen and update the process of synchronization and integration of latest research and method developments on nanomaterial characterisation, quantification and detection.
This dissemination event will take place on the 2nd of February 2016 in Brussels and will be a follow-up of the 1st NSC synergy workshop we had in Copenhagen on 6th June 2014. Main objectives will be to learn from each other, identify common synergies and overlaps related to new standards and reference materials,share expertise, experience and knowledge, identify bottlenecks and gaps, and discuss protocols tested in other projects, to finally maximise the impact and minimise duplication of our work. Invited participants include project coordinators and representatives, such as from NANoREG + NANoREG II, NanoSolutions, NanoMile and SUN, but all projects, organisations or individuals are welcome, who could contribute to and benefit from this workshop.
