NanoFASE presented at the Mexico – European Union Workshop in Nanosafety
On 22 ‐ 24 January 2019 a workshop was held at Centro de Nanociencias y Nanotecnologia (Universidad Nacional Autónoma de México) to establish a stronger connection between the Mexican and European research and innovation communities as they bring scientific information to risk assessment, risk management and policy levels. The workshop created ongoing opportunities to benefit from each other’s knowledge and infrastructure.
Twenty-two on-site participants heard a remote presentation from NanoFASE coordinator Claus Svendsen. He gave insight into the progress on nano‐exposure assessment in the environment and its inclusion in nano‐regulation with a pragmatic and realistic approach to reduce complexity. Fernando Rojas Íñiguez (Director of Centro de Nanociencias y Nanotecnología, UNAM), Carlos Eduardo Lima Da Cunha (Policy Officer at European Commission), Iseult Lynch (NanoFASE work package 3 leader, University of Birmingham) were among the delegates from the EU and Mexico who attended the workshop. A follow-up meeting may be organized later this year in Europe.
